Often seen as second best to more precious metals, but silver jewellery by the best designers can achieve excellent prices, particularly Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts pieces such as those by Murrle Bennett or Sibyl Dunlop, and of course examples retailed by Liberty.
More modern but still sought after are pieces by Scandinavian designers George Jensen and David Andersen, and Scottish designer Norman Grant. Georgian and Victorian chains and lockets can also realise surprisingly strong prices, so it is worth arranging to have your jewellery examined by a specialist before making any decision on selling.
